The active ingredient in Hazel 100 is 1-MCP, a widely used chemical compound that helps prevent early decay in various types of produce. 1-MCP works to inhibit the harmful natural hormone, ethylene, by binding to the fruit's ethylene receptors and blocking it from initiating the decay process. This process extends the produce's freshness and shelf life.
The hazel 100 difference
Hazel 100 comes in a dry, gas-permeable packet that is designed to provide a continuous, controlled release of 1-MCP. When added to a bin of apples, Hazel 100 immediately starts emitting a targeted dose of 1-MCP, which binds to ethylene receptors in the nearby area.
The gradual release allows for an ongoing treatment that remains effective as the produce transitions between environments or is stored at non-sealed facilities.
How it works
- Toss a Hazel 100 packet into the box or bin of apples
- The packet released 1-MCP into the atmosphere around the produce
- The 1-MCP binds to a majority of the apple’s ethylene receptors, slowing down the production and absorption of ethylene and delaying the aging process among treated apples in the bin.
- The box or bin treatment is complete.
